India a Global Stability Anchor Amid Economic Uncertainty: NITI Aayog

New Delhi, July 23 — India’s steady economic growth and inclusive development model make it a strong source of global stability during uncertain times, said Suman Bery, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog.

He was speaking at the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Bery said the world is going through major economic changes, and global cooperation is more important than ever to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He noted that the world needs:

  • New engines of growth,

  • Development models that can be shared and scaled across nations, and

  • Reliable sources of stability.

He stressed that India is ready to provide all three, using its strong economic foundation and unique development journey.

Bery highlighted that India is a vibrant democracy with improving social and economic indicators. He said this progress has come from:

  • Inclusive digital tools,

  • Ethical reforms, and

  • Laws designed to uplift all sections of society.

He also pointed out India’s leadership role in supporting other Global South nations and said that India’s development path—known for its scale, speed, and stability—can be a model for others.

Quoting recent data, Bery stated that 248 million Indians moved out of poverty between 2013–14 and 2022–23. With the largest number of young people entering the workforce globally, India is focused on ensuring a productive and bright future for its youth.

Bery said India’s story proves that inclusive and sustainable growth is not only achievable but also adaptable in different settings around the world.

As the United Nations marks its 80th anniversary, India also reaffirmed its strong support for the UN and its central role in global cooperation and multilateralism.
