Modi Outlines 5-Point Plan to Boost India-Japan Ties
Tokyo, Aug 29 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba at the India-Japan Economic Forum in Tokyo, where he pitched a stronger economic partnership and laid out five key areas for future collaboration.
Speaking to top business leaders, Modi praised Japan’s long-standing role in India’s development and noted that Japanese companies have already invested over $40 billion in the country. He said India’s political and economic stability, combined with clear policy direction, make it an ideal partner.
Modi’s five-point roadmap includes:
Manufacturing and Emerging Sectors: Expanding cooperation into batteries, robotics, semiconductors, shipbuilding, and nuclear energy.
Technology and Innovation: Leveraging Japan’s tech leadership with India’s talent in AI, biotech, space, and quantum computing.
Green Energy: Partnering on solar, green hydrogen, and clean energy projects as India pushes toward major renewable goals.
Infrastructure: Advancing major projects like the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train and expanding metro systems with Japanese support.
Skill Development and Workforce Exchange: Training Indian youth in Japanese language and skills to meet workforce needs.
Modi closed by urging Japanese companies to “Make in India and Make for the World,” positioning the partnership as key to regional growth and stability.
