GST 2.0 Reforms Bring Festive Cheer in Gujarat as Traders Welcome Lower Prices
Gandhinagar, Sep 4 — Traders and residents across Gujarat have warmly welcomed the new GST 2.0 reforms, calling them a timely relief ahead of Diwali. With the GST Council approving major changes to India’s tax system, many believe the festive season will now be brighter, cheaper, and more affordable for the common man.
In Gandhinagar, local businessman Vijay, who works in the FMCG sector, said the reforms would help nearly everyone. “Over 90 percent of people will benefit from this. It will increase purchasing power and help common people a lot. This is a fantastic move,” he said. Another trader, Dilip, added that the timing was perfect. “It’s a double bonanza before Diwali. Customers will benefit, and it will truly be a happy Diwali.”
In Surat, where the textile sector is still waiting for relief, BJP leader Rishikesh Patel assured that proposals are under review. He said reforms take time but praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the NDA government for their decisive steps. Patel highlighted that these reforms are part of a wider economic strategy that includes income tax relief, agricultural support, and exemptions on life-saving medicines.
In Jamnagar, traders were especially happy about reduced GST on essential and electronic goods. Lower prices, they said, will encourage more shopping and revive the market. “Things will be cheaper, and the common man will benefit immensely,” said trader Sureshbhai Tanna. A resident, Vijay Bhai, added, “This will improve purchasing power and bring much-needed relief.”
Local businessman Kailash Hakim summed up the general feeling: “This reform will reduce the burden on people’s pockets. It’s like Diwali has come early this year.”
The new GST structure, effective from September 22, now has two main slabs—5 percent and 18 percent—while luxury and sin goods remain taxed at 40 percent. Items like groceries, fertilizers, footwear, and renewable energy products will become cheaper as goods earlier taxed at 12 and 28 percent move to lower slabs.
Traders expect these changes to boost sales and stimulate economic activity, spreading festive cheer across Gujarat and beyond.
