Manisha Koirala Honors Grandfather B.P. Koirala on His Birthday
Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala paid tribute to her grandfather, B.P. Koirala, on his birth anniversary by sharing a heartfelt message on social media.
B.P. Koirala was Nepal’s first elected Prime Minister and a well-known writer. Manisha called him a strong supporter of democracy and shared some of his inspiring words about freedom, youth, and fighting corruption. She posted a rare black-and-white photo of him on Instagram with this message:
“Democracy is indivisible; if you want democracy at home, you cannot afford to neglect all struggles for it.”
B.P. Koirala led Nepal as Prime Minister from 1959 to 1960. He was also the head of the Nepali Congress party, which follows social democratic ideas. Besides being Manisha’s grandfather, he was the elder brother of former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala and younger brother of another former Prime Minister, Matrika Prasad Koirala.
B.P. Koirala passed away in 1982 from cancer after returning from medical treatment in the United States.
On the acting front, Manisha was recently seen in the web series “Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar”, directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. The show is set in the red-light area of Heera Mandi in Lahore during India’s fight for independence. It tells stories of tawaifs (traditional dancers) and their struggles during British rule. The series also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, and others.
Manisha’s tribute reminds people of her grandfather’s important role in Nepal’s history and his lasting message about democracy and standing up for what is right.
