Modi at BRICS: ”Can’t Run 21st-Century Software on 20th-Century Typewriters”
Speaking at the BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called for urgent reforms in global institutions, saying they haven’t changed in 80 years — even as AI and technology evolve weekly.
He used a tech metaphor: “You can’t run 21st-century software on 20th-century typewriters.”
Modi highlighted India’s new IndiaAI Mission, which focuses on safe, ethical, and inclusive use of artificial intelligence. The mission supports innovation, helps businesses, and aims to benefit millions across different sectors.
He also stressed the need for a fairer and more inclusive world order, with real changes in how international bodies are run — including governance, voting rights, and leadership roles — especially for countries in the Global South.
