11-Month-Old Baby Sole Survivor of Deadly Himachal Floods

Flash floods caused by cloudbursts have devastated villages in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh, leaving a trail of destruction. The youngest victim is an 11-month-old baby girl—the only survivor in her family—who lost her parents and grandmother in the disaster.

The tragedy struck when her family went outside to divert floodwaters but were swept away. Villagers found the baby crying alone in her home the next morning. A video of a local official comforting her has touched hearts online.

So far, 78 people have died in the state, with 30 still missing. The baby has been placed with relatives, and the government will deposit compensation and donations into a secure account for her future.

Rescue teams, including the NDRF and Air Force helicopters, are working to help affected villages. The state has suffered massive damage, with blocked roads and losses estimated at ₹700 crore.
