Iran has prepared a broad response strategy for any potential attacks on its infrastructure, according to the semi-official Tasnim news agency, which cited a senior security official. The reported plan includes targeting key Israeli infrastructure and US energy facilities across West Asia.
The statement follows US media reports claiming Washington and Israel could launch strikes on Iranian infrastructure. The Wall Street Journal reported that President Donald Trump had ordered a new military operation that could begin as early as this weekend, while CBS News said possible targets include Iran’s energy facilities.
Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Secretary Mohammad Baqer Zolqadr warned that continued US military pressure and naval actions could further disrupt the Strait of Hormuz and affect other strategic waterways, with global energy markets and the world economy likely to face the consequences.
Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi also cautioned Britain against supporting any US military action against Iran. During a call with British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband, Araghchi argued that allowing territory or facilities to be used for attacks would violate international law and justify Iran’s right to self-defence. He also accused Washington of failing to uphold commitments made under a June memorandum of understanding and said Iran was working with Oman to manage shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Miliband said Britain was not involved in military action against Iran and maintained that diplomacy remained the preferred path to resolving tensions.
