No SIT Yet in Dharmasthala Murder Case, Says Karnataka Home Minister Amid Growing Outcry
Bengaluru, July 19 — Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has said that the government will not form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) right now to look into the Dharmasthala murder case, despite rising public pressure and demands from activists.
Speaking to reporters in Bengaluru on Saturday, Parameshwara explained that a preliminary investigation is already underway. The case is currently being handled by the local police station, which has started collecting evidence, including statements from a mysterious person who recently made serious claims.
He questioned the need to set up an SIT so early. “The police are doing their job. If we create an SIT every time there is public demand, then why have a police force at all?” he asked.
He also said that the Chief Minister has already spoken about the matter, and any further action will be taken based on what the situation demands — not just public opinion. “There’s a system in place. Let the process take its course,” he added.
Meanwhile, CPI leader P. Sandosh Kumar has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah asking for a National Investigation Agency (NIA) probe into what he says is a pattern of crimes in Dharmasthala. The town is known across India for its religious importance.
In his letter, Kumar said that the incidents appear to be part of a bigger, hidden pattern, especially targeting women. He stressed that the spiritual importance of Dharmasthala must be protected through truth and justice.
The case took a serious turn on July 11, when a man came forward in court and claimed he was forced to bury the bodies of several raped and murdered women in Dharmasthala 11 years ago. According to his statement, the bodies were found without clothes and had clear injuries, suggesting sexual violence.
The claims have shocked the public and sparked national concern. Former Supreme Court judges and rights activists have called for a court-monitored SIT to ensure a fair and deep investigation into the disturbing allegations.
