Bihar Police Officer Caught Taking ₹20,000 Bribe in Samastipur; Vigilance Action Shakes Department
Patna, July 19 — In a strong move against corruption, the State Vigilance Unit (SVU) has arrested a police officer in Bihar. Sub-Inspector Putul Kumari, who was the Station House Officer (SHO) of the Women’s Police Station in Samastipur, was caught taking a bribe of ₹20,000. Her driver was also arrested in the case.
According to officials, the officer was caught red-handed while taking the bribe from a man named Rajiv Ranjan, a resident of Chhatauna village. He had filed an assault case, and the SHO allegedly demanded money to move forward with it.
Rajiv Ranjan then approached the Vigilance Unit and filed a complaint. Based on the complaint, the team set up a trap. As soon as Putul Kumari accepted the money, she and her driver were arrested on the spot.
Vigilance Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rajesh Kumar confirmed the arrests and said that a detailed investigation is now underway. Legal action will be taken as needed.
This arrest has created shock and tension in the police department, especially in Samastipur. Just a few days ago, another police officer, ASI Mrityunjay Kumar, was suspended for a similar bribery case in the same district. These back-to-back cases show that the government is taking a zero-tolerance approach to corruption, even within the police force.
This is not the only case of corruption the SVU has tackled recently. On March 19, they arrested Vikas Kumar, a Kanoongo (revenue officer), in Supaul district. He was caught accepting a bribe of ₹5,000 in Gudiya Panchayat, under Jadia police station limits.
The complainant, Anupam Kumar, said in his report that the officer had asked for a bribe to fix problems with a land survey done three years earlier.
These recent actions send a clear message: the Bihar government is serious about fighting corruption, especially among public servants and law enforcement officials.
