India’s industrial output grew 7.3% year-on-year in June, driven by strong performance in manufacturing and electricity, according to government data.
The Index of Industrial Production (IIP) reached 123.1 in June, up from 114.7 a year earlier. Manufacturing expanded 7.8%, while electricity and gas supply recorded the fastest growth at 10.6%. Mining and quarrying grew 1%, and water supply, sewerage, and waste management increased 6.1%.
Among manufacturing industries, 19 of 23 sectors posted positive growth. The biggest contributors were electrical equipment (34%), motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (17.5%), and food products (10.8%). Within food products, tea, non-basmati rice, and starch were key growth drivers.
The government said the May 2026 IIP figures have been revised using updated data. The weighted response rates were 86.7% for the June quick estimates and 93.1% for the revised May data.
The next IIP data release for July 2026 is scheduled for August 28, 2026.
