Jerusalem Bus Stop Shooting Leaves 5 Dead, Several Injured in Terror Attack
Jerusalem, Sept 8 – Five people were killed and several others injured in a deadly shooting attack at Ramot Junction in Jerusalem on Monday, according to local reports.
The Magen David Adom (MDA) ambulance service said that four people died at the scene, while a fifth person died later in the hospital. At least seven others were seriously injured, two had moderate injuries, and three were lightly hurt.
The attack happened when two gunmen opened fire on passengers and people nearby, including those on a bus on route 62, according to Israeli officials.
The attackers were quickly shot and killed by a soldier and an armed civilian, identified as a young Haredi man. Police confirmed that the two were “neutralised” at the scene.
Large numbers of police arrived at the site, including Deputy Police Chief Avshalom Peled. Bomb experts were also sent to check for any possible explosives in the area, though none were reported found at the time.
Following the attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a security meeting with top defense officials to assess the situation. No official motive has been confirmed yet, but Israeli leaders described the shooting as a terrorist attack.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sharren Haskel called it a “tragic morning in Jerusalem,” saying the terrorists opened fire on both bus passengers and bystanders. She expressed her condolences and said the people of Israel would remain united against such violence.
A woman who survived the attack shared her terrifying experience. She told Channel 12, “As soon as the driver opened the door… terrorists came in. I was near the back, I fell on people and escaped. I hid under a car until it was over.”
She described the gunfire as “beyond anything imaginable” and said she couldn’t believe she survived.
The investigation is ongoing, and the area remains under tight security.
