🕯️ Junior Doctors in Bengal to Hold Night Vigil for R.G. Kar Victim

Kolkata, July 8 – On the first anniversary of the tragic rape and murder of a junior doctor at R.G. Kar Medical College, the West Bengal Junior Doctors’ Front will hold a midnight vigil called “Reclaim the Night” from Tuesday night until 4 a.m. Wednesday.

The event includes a torch rally and aims to honor the victim while demanding safer campuses and an end to the “threat culture” in educational institutions across West Bengal.

However, the junior doctors’ group will not join the Wednesday rally to the State Secretariat organized by Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, saying it may become politically motivated—despite being labeled as apolitical. The victim’s parents have agreed to join that rally.

The doctors also criticized the CBI’s slow progress in the case, blaming both the state and central governments for failing to deliver justice.

A separate event titled “Cry of the Hour” will be held on August 9 at R.G. Kar Medical College to further highlight campus safety concerns.
