Liverpool’s Hugo Ekitike Welcomes Isak Signing, Says Competition Is “A Good Problem”
New Delhi, Sept 8 – Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike says he’s excited about the challenge of competing with new teammate Alexander Isak, who joined the club in a record-breaking £125 million move from Newcastle United.
Ekitike, who also arrived this summer, became Liverpool’s third-most expensive signing after Isak and Florian Wirtz, the German midfielder signed from Bayer Leverkusen for £100 million plus add-ons.
Despite the competition, Ekitike has made a strong start to his Liverpool career, scoring three goals in his first four matches for the reigning Premier League champions.
Speaking to reporters, the 22-year-old French striker welcomed the arrival of Isak, calling it a positive challenge.
“When you play for top clubs, you expect to compete with top players. Isak is someone I’ve watched before, and it’s great to have him here. It’ll be tough, but I’m ready to work hard and make the coach’s decision difficult,” he said.
Ekitike joined Liverpool after a standout season with Eintracht Frankfurt, where he scored 15 goals in 33 Bundesliga games, earning him his big move to Anfield.
As he continues to impress at club level, Ekitike is also hoping to earn his first senior start for France in their upcoming match against Iceland.
At Liverpool, the striker has also shown a willingness to adapt his position if needed. While he naturally plays as a centre-forward, he said he’s open to playing on the left wing, a spot currently held by Cody Gakpo, who has one goal and two assists this season.
