Steven Gerrard Pays Tribute to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva at Anfield
Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard paid his respects to Diogo Jota and Andre Silva at Anfield on Friday morning. Gerrard laid flowers at the memorial site outside the Main Stand to honour the two brothers who died in a car accident last Thursday. He was joined by students from the Steven Gerrard Academy.
Other Liverpool players, including Milos Kerkez, Armin Pecsi, and Dominik Szoboszlai, also laid flowers at the site on Thursday. Former Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana visited the memorial to pay his respects as well.
A new mural called ‘Forever 20’ has been created on Sybil Road near Anfield by Murwalls, where fans are leaving personal messages for the brothers.
Liverpool players had started their pre-season training at the AXA Training Centre on Tuesday, but some delayed their return to attend Jota’s funeral on Saturday. The squad, led by captain Virgil Van Dijk and head coach Arne Slot, attended the funeral to say goodbye.
Diogo Jota, 28, played a key role for both Liverpool and Portugal. Since joining Liverpool in 2020 from Wolves, he helped the team win the Premier League, FA Cup, and two EFL Cups. For Portugal, he played 49 matches and scored 14 goals, helping them win the UEFA Nations League in 2019 and 2025. He had celebrated Portugal’s recent Nations League win just weeks before his death.
