Maruti Suzuki India recorded its highest-ever monthly domestic sales in July, crossing the 2 lakh-unit mark for the first time.
The company sold 2,41,421 vehicles during the month, up from 1,80,526 units a year earlier. Domestic sales, including light commercial vehicles, reached a record 2,00,123 units, while exports stood at 30,056 units. Supplies to other original equipment manufacturers totalled 11,242 units.
Overall domestic dispatches, including passenger vehicles, light commercial vehicles and OEM sales, rose to 2,11,365 units from 1,48,781 units in July last year. Passenger vehicle sales increased to 1,96,203 units, led by strong demand for utility vehicles, which climbed to 78,851 units. Passenger car sales also grew to 1,03,456 units.
The sales milestone comes a day after the automaker reported a 9.1 per cent year-on-year decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 3,447 crore for the April-June quarter, despite a 36 per cent rise in revenue to Rs 52,469 crore. Higher raw material and operating costs squeezed margins during the period.
