India and Iceland Strengthen Ties at India-Nordic Dialogue in Reykjavik
Reykjavik, Sep 5 – India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, Kirti Vardhan Singh, is on a two-day visit to Iceland for the second India-Nordic Track 1.5 Dialogue, aimed at boosting cooperation with Nordic countries.
Singh spoke at the reception event in Reykjavik alongside Iceland’s Foreign Minister, Thorgerdur Katrin Gunnarsdottir. He also met with senior officials, scholars, and experts from Nordic think tanks to exchange ideas on key areas of cooperation.
“Happy to be in Reykjavik for the 2nd India-Nordic Track 1.5 Dialogue… Looking forward to the discussions,” Singh posted on social media platform X.
During his visit, Singh reviewed progress on the “3 Ts” — Trade, Tourism, and Technology — at the Indian Embassy in Reykjavik. He also explored new ideas to boost business, attract tourists, and increase technology partnerships between India and Iceland.
On Thursday, Singh held a detailed meeting with Iceland’s Foreign Minister. They reviewed progress in areas like trade, investment, renewable energy, geothermal energy, and fisheries. Singh said he hopes to work even more closely with Iceland on these shared interests.
He also thanked Iceland for strongly condemning the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed 26 people and injured many more.
The Minister also shared that both sides discussed key regional and global issues during the meeting.
The Ministry of External Affairs said that Singh’s visit is focused on strengthening India’s ties with not just Iceland but also other Nordic nations. He is expected to meet Iceland’s Parliament Speaker and other top leaders during his visit.
“Looking forward to having constructive engagements during the Dialogue and bilateral meetings with the Icelandic side,” Singh posted after arriving in Reykjavik.
This visit aims to deepen collaboration between India and the Nordic region in areas like clean energy, research, trade, and strategic cooperation.
