India Has Potential to Become Global Hub for Mining and Construction Equipment: Report

India can establish itself as a global manufacturing and export center for mining and construction equipment by increasing local production, adopting advanced technologies, investing in research and development, and introducing supportive policy measures, according to a joint report by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Boston Consulting Group (BCG).

The report said strong government investment in infrastructure, mining, manufacturing, and clean energy will drive sustained demand for mining and construction equipment. It estimates the sector is currently worth about $17 billion and is growing at 10–12% annually.

Capital expenditure across related sectors is projected to increase from about Rs 5.5 lakh crore in 2025 to Rs 9–10 lakh crore by 2030, supported by India’s infrastructure expansion. The report also noted that the country’s relatively low level of mechanisation offers significant room for higher equipment demand and productivity gains.

It added that rising exports and the adoption of automation, digitalisation, electrification, and connected technologies could enhance the industry’s global competitiveness.

CII and BCG representatives said the sector will play a key role in supporting India’s infrastructure goals and the vision of Viksit Bharat while strengthening the country’s position in global markets.
