The Amreli Cyber Crime Police in Gujarat recovered and returned Rs 11 lakh to a Sydney-based Indian after resolving a cyber fraud complaint within weeks through coordination with banks and local authorities.
The complainant, Saurabh Jolly, originally from New Delhi and now living in Australia, emailed Amreli Police in June after paying Rs 11 lakh in April to an Amreli resident for gold that was never delivered.
According to Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kharat, the cyber crime team immediately launched an investigation, worked closely with the bank, and kept Jolly informed throughout the process. Inspector Kamlesh Khatana said the recipient was persuaded to return the money, which was fully refunded in July.
Jolly thanked the police for their prompt communication and professional handling of the case, saying the experience strengthened his confidence in Indian policing despite the distance.
The case follows directions from Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi to ensure swift support for fraud victims and maximize efforts to recover their money.
