⚽ Liverpool Mourns Diogo Jota as Pre-Season Begins

Liverpool, July 8 – Liverpool FC players returned to training on Tuesday, just days after the heartbreaking death of teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a car accident along with his brother Andre Silva in Spain.

Fans left flowers and tributes outside Anfield and the AXA Training Centre to honour the 28-year-old forward, who was deeply loved by supporters worldwide.

The accident happened in Zamora, Spain, when Jota’s car lost control due to a tyre blowout and caught fire while overtaking. His funeral was held Saturday in Gondomar, Portugal, attended by Liverpool teammates, including Virgil van Dijk and new head coach Arne Slot.

Jota joined Liverpool in 2020 from Wolves and became a vital player, helping the club win the Premier League, FA Cup, and two EFL Cups. He scored 65 goals in 182 matches for Liverpool and earned 49 caps and 14 goals for Portugal, recently winning the 2025 UEFA Nations League.

Liverpool’s pre-season game against Preston North End on July 13 remains uncertain as the team continues to grieve.
